34-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Sedan on Highway 119 near Harrison Street

 
FORD CITY, CA (September 13, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 119 in Ford City early Saturday morning on September 9.
 
The fatal accident happened around 2:30 a.m. at Harrison Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking in the southbound traffic lane when he was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Impala.
 
The driver of the Impala, 60-year-old Jeffery R. Russinsky of Bakersfield, swerved to the left to avoid the pedestrian, but struck him with the right front of the car, according to the CHP.
 
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a 34-year-old Taft resident.
 
Russinsky sustained minor injuries but was not transported.
 
Crews closed Highway 119 between Harrison and Midway Road for about 90 minutes while they worked on the scene.
 
The CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
