Car Accident on Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside Kills Driver, Passenger Fled the Scene

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (February 6, 2022) – A driver was killed in a car accident at Van Buren Boulevard and Duncan Avenue in Riverside, early Sunday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:58 a.m. on February 6. According to the Riverside Police Department, a black Kia was traveling north on Van Buren when the driver lost control. The car then struck a power pole and came to rest in a field just south of Duncan Avenue.
 
As a result, the driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. They were only described as a 21-year-old Riverside resident.
 
Police said a passenger in the vehicle fled the scene before first responders arrived.
 
Northbound Van Buren Boulevard was temporarily closed between Challen and Duncan avenues while crews cleared the wreckage.
 
At this time, it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Police asked anyone with further information to call Riverside Police Traffic Detective R. McHugh at 951-826-8720.
