OAKLAND, CA (August 22, 2023) — A deputy suffered injuries in a police chase crash on the 580 Freeway at Highway 24 Saturday morning.
 
According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the police chase happened around 1:55 a.m. For an unknown reason, officers tried to pull over a white Chevrolet Silverado truck on the eastbound 580 Freeway. However, the driver did not comply, and instead, fled the scene. Subsequently, a chase ensued, leading officers onto the 80 West Freeway and eastbound 580 Freeway.
 
At the intersection with Highway 24, the suspect reportedly slammed its brakes and turned around before crashing into a sheriff’s patrol vehicle.
 
Although the suspect tried to flee, officers caught the suspect and took the individual into custody.
 
As for the deputy involved in the crash, he or she sought hospital care as a precaution and went home shortly thereafter.
