73-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Winton Way near Gerard Avenue

 
WINTON, CA (November 23, 2022) – A 73-year-old Winton man died in a pedestrian accident on Winton Way, Friday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on November 18, at about 7:12 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a northbound 2020 Toyota Prius hit a pedestrian near Gerard Avenue.
 
Emergency crews transported the pedestrian to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. Reports later confirmed that the victim died at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
 
Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota, identified as 73-year-old Darla Suzanne Peters, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers ask anyone with additional information to contact Merced CHP at (209) 356-6600.
