FRESNO, CA (April 26, 2023) – Brianna Britten was killed after a car crashed into the tent she was sleeping in early Monday morning on April 24.
The fatal crash happened just after 1:00 a.m. on Ashlan Avenue near Highway 41. According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the 30-year-old unhoused woman was sleeping in the tent with another woman when 39-year-old Erica Jones hit them with her car.
Prior to the crash, officials tried to pull Jones over but she refused to stop.
After crashing into the tent, Jones got out of her car and tried to run away. She was later found nearby at Blackstone and Ashlan avenues.
Both women were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Britten did not survive and was declared dead.
Officers conducted a DUI investigation and determined Jones was impaired. They arrested her on suspicion of felony charges of DUI and murder.
