Man and Woman Victims of Fatal High-Speed Motorcycle Crash in Empire
EMPIRE, CA (August 8, 2021) – Brenda Blakes and Bruce Rummerfield both died in a motorcycle accident in Empire late Tuesday night, August 3.
The fatal accident happened around 10:20 p.m. on Santa Fe Avenue near South Avenue. CHP officials said Rummerfield, a 53-year-old Stockton man, was riding his motorcycle with Blakes, a 20-year-old Elk Grove woman, as his passenger.
The two were heading south on Santa Fe Avenue at a high rate of speed when Rummerfield lost control. The bike then landed on its right side, ejecting both riders.
Rummerfield died at the scene. Blakes was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where she also died, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s office.
Both were wearing helmets. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor, according to the CHP.
CHP officers said a dark sedan was seen in the area just in front of the motorcycle. They are still trying to determine if the motorcycle collided with the sedan before it continued south.
Anyone with further information is asked to call the CHP’s Modesto office at 209-545-7440.
