Fatal Bicycle-Car Accident on Highway 78 in Escondido

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (August 22, 2021) – A bicyclist died in a car accident on Highway 78 in Escondido Saturday evening.
 
The fatal accident on Highway 78 happened just after 9:00 p.m. on August 21, in the area of eastbound Ronald Parkway near Centre City Parkway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was trying to cross from the center divider to the right shoulder when a white Volvo sedan struck them.
 
As a result, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
 
The driver of the sedan stopped after the crash and cooperated with authorities.
 
At this time, CHP officials are still investigating the fatality to determine the cause and liability.
