Pedestrian Bedford Moering Dies after Struck by Racing Vehicle in Barstow

 
BARSTOW, CA (August 10, 2022) – Bedford Moering was killed in a pedestrian accident in Barstow on Sunday morning, August 7.
 
The accident happened around 10:06 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Main Street. According to the Barstow Police Department, a white Honda Accord and a gray Dodge Challenger were street racing when the Honda struck Moering who was crossing the street. It then rear-ended a blue Ford Escape.
 
When officers arrived, they found Moering lying dead on the roadway. The victim was a 58-year-old Barstow resident.
 
The driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Dean Laney of Barstow, stayed on scene and was transported by Desert Ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for his injuries.
 
The driver of the Dodge drove away.
 
Detectives obtained the license plate number of the Dodge. They located the vehicle and registered owner, 22-year-old Manuel Zapata of Barstow.
 
Police arrested Laney and Zapata on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges.
