41-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Winchester

 
WINCHESTER, CA (May 10, 2022) – Andrew Lopez was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 79 in the unincorporated community of Winchester on Saturday, April 30.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:45 p.m. about a quarter mile south of Scott Road. CHP officials said Lopez was walking in the northbound traffic lane when a passing 2016 Toyota RAV4 struck him.
 
After the crash, the driver of the SUV did not stop, leaving Lopez with fatal injuries.
 
Lopez died at the scene. He was 41-year-old Menifee resident, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau.
 
Through investigative leads, the suspect, a 71-year-old Temecula man, was later found in Hemet. The driver was questioned and showed no signs of impairment. However, felony hit-and-run charges are pending for that driver.
 
Authorities asked witnesses to contact the CHP at 951-506-2000.
