Suspected DUI Driver Crashes into Kohl’s Store in Huntington Beach Injuring 3 People

 
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (October 16, 2023) – Three people were hurt in a suspected DUI crash on Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach Friday evening on October 13.
 
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, officers received calls about a truck that crashed into the Kohl’s store at Bella Terra Mall shortly before 8:00 p.m.
 
The driver originally fled, prompting a police chase, but was arrested later at 1600 Beach Boulevard.
 
Three people were injured in the crash, two of them were in serious condition.
 
One of the victims was part of a singing quartet in front of the store. Near the end of the set, the driver accelerated into the group, hitting the victim and driving some 50 feet into the store.
 
The driver backed out and took off in his red pickup truck, prompting a police chase.
 
Police later spun out the truck and arrested the suspect.
 
It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to crash into the store. Police believe he was under the influence of a substance of some kind.
 
An investigation is underway.
