Tesla Crashes into Prisoner Transport Bus at 5th and I Streets in Downtown Sacramento Injuring 19 Inmates

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (May 23, 2023) – Nineteen inmates were hurt in a traffic accident at 5th Street and I Street in downtown Sacramento Friday morning on May 19.
 
According to the Sacramento Fire Department, a Tesla car ran a red light and crashed into a white prisoner transport bus, just a few blocks from Sacramento County Main Jail. There were 23 people on the bus.
 
At least 19 inmates sustained minor injuries from the crash.
 
Some people were medically cleared and two have been taken to a hospital, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said.
 
The reason for the Tesla driver’s traffic violation and the identity of the driver is still unknown at this time.
 
Further investigation is underway.
