DUI Driver Strikes Ohlwiler Family with their Son in Stroller in Rancho Santa Margarita, Infant Suffers Fatal Injuries

 
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA (April 4, 2023) – An 11-month-old boy died and Kyle Ohlwiler and Hayley Ohlwiler were seriously injured in a DUI crash in Rancho Santa Margarita Sunday afternoon.
 
The fatal crash happened 4:15 p.m. on April 2, in the area of Antonio Parkway and Oaktree Lane. According to the CHP, 54-year-old Daniel Patrick Lenihan of San Clemente was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.
 
The Ohlwiler family was walking on the sidewalk with their son in a stroller when the Hyundai left the roadway, jumped a curb and struck them.
 
As a result, Kyle, 34, and Hayley, 31, both suffered major injuries. They were residents of Rancho Santa Margarita. Their son Madden, died at the hospital.
 
A GoFundMe has been set up to support the Ohlwilers.
 
Police arrested Lenihan on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter.
 
Further investigation is underway.
