Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Oakland, Suspect Danniqua Tims Arrested

 
OAKLAND, CA (August 28, 2022) – 35-year-old San Francisco resident Andrew Tonken died in a hit-and-run crash in Oakland Thursday afternoon on August 25.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and West MacArthur Boulevard. According to the police, Tonken was crossing the street when a 2016 Chrysler traveling at a high rate of speed struck him.
 
After the crash, the driver of the Chrysler fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Tonken was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
 
Police later identified the driver as 31-year-old Danniqua Tims of Pittsburg and arrested her. They booked Tims at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death.
 
Police said speed played a role in the crash, but drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors.
