Olympic Valley Man Dies after Crash Involving 3 Vehicles on Highway 89 in Truckee

 
TRUCKEE, CA (August 28, 2022) – A man died in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 89 in Truckee on Friday afternoon, August 26.
 
The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. near the Goose Meadow Campground. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 43-year-old Vallejo man was driving a 2018 International box truck north on the highway.
 
For unknown reasons, he crossed over the center line and crashed into three vehicles that were heading the opposite way.
 
The box truck sideswiped a 2023 Ford Econoline van and a 2006 Subaru Outback and slammed head-on into a 2014 Subaru Impreza.
 
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Impreza suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 37-year-old man from Olympic Valley.
 
The Outback driver, a 42-year-old Truckee woman, and a 52-year-old male passenger in the van from San Pablo had minor injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the van was unharmed. She was a 42-year-old woman from Tempe, Arizona.
 
The condition of the box truck driver was unknown.
 
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer D. Lack at 530-563-9200.
