Police Cruiser Collides with Train, Injures Officer in Chino

CHINO, CA (May 21, 2021) – A police officer suffered injuries after their cruiser collides with a train at a rail crossing in Chino on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Chino police, the incident took place in the 12500 block of Roswell Avenue at about 3:15 p.m.

The marked patrol unit was responding to a call for service, while the yellow Union Pacific train was southbound in the 12500 block of Roswell Avenue when they collided.

The officer, who was the sole occupant of the Chino Police Department cruiser, sustained minor injuries. Firefighter-paramedics treated the officer at the scene and subsequently took him to a local hospital for treatment. Meantime, there were no reports of other injuries.

Train tracks and railroad crossings are a major safety concern. Only cross at designated railroad crossings marked by a sign, lights, or a gate. Never rush across as trains may be closer and faster than you think. Patiently wait for the trains to pass, the lights to stop flashing, and the gates to lift before crossing. Also, do not use your cell phone and remove your headphones to avoid distraction.
