Pedestrian Suffers Traumatic Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on 5th Street in San Francisco

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 6, 2023) – A woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on 5th Street in San Francisco Monday evening on October 2.
 
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. just south of Market Street. According to the San Francisco Police Department, a human-driven vehicle struck the pedestrian while traveling in the lane immediately to the left of a Cruise AV. The impact launched the pedestrian directly in front of the AV.
 
The AV then braked aggressively to minimize the impact. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene.
 
Firefighters were able to secure the Cruise car and free the woman. Paramedics rushed the victim to San Francisco General Hospital with multiple traumatic injuries.
 
The Cruise car was uninhabited at the time of the crash and remained at the scene.
 
SFPD is investigating the crash. They urged anyone with information to call them at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with “SFPD.”
