Woman Killed, Chris Larges Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 99 [Chico, CA]

Deadly Crash on Highway 99 in Chico Involves 4 Vehicles

 
CHICO, CA (March 12, 2023) – A woman was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 99 in Chico Tuesday afternoon on March 7.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:00 p.m. just north of Cana Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 52-year-old Chico woman was driving a silver Toyota sedan north on the highway. For unknown reasons, she drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the left side of a big rig traveling in the opposite direction. The impact caused the rear axle of the big rig’s trailer to become detached and then it traveled into the northbound lane, where it collided with a red Toyota pickup truck.
 
The Toyota pickup truck then rolled onto its side on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 99. The axle traveled back into the southbound lane where it collided with a silver Honda sedan.
 
Responding fire crews extricated two patients from their vehicles following the crash.
 
Paramedics transported the driver of the Toyota pickup truck, 52-year-old Chris Larges of Shasta Lake, to Enloe Medical Center with moderate injuries.
 
However, the woman driving the Toyota sedan succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
