Late Evening Big Rig Accident on Highway 101 in San Jose Kills SUV Driver
SAN JOSE, CA (March 21, 2021) – A woman died late Wednesday evening after a big rig accident on Highway 101 near Highway 85 in South San Jose.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:42 p.m., March 17. CHP officials said the woman was driving a 2016 Mazda SUV northbound on Highway 101 approaching Highway 85 at an unsafe speed. She then crashed into the back of 2011 Freightliner that was traveling about 55 mph. The SUV was lodged under the trailer.
As a result, the woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office withheld her identity pending family notification.
The big rig driver, a 56-year-old Sunnyvale man, was not injured.
There was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident. Anyone with further information is asked to can contact the CHP Hollister-Gilroy area field office at 408-848-2324.
