Driver Dies after Crashing into Jackknifed Big Rig on 15 Freeway in Mission Valley

 
MISSION VALLEY, CA (March 7, 2022) – A woman died in a big rig accident on 15 Freeway in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, early Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 2:20 a.m. on March 4 near the transition 8 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old man was driving an Amazon big rig truck when he lost control on the rain-slicked freeway and jack-knifed, blocking multiple lanes.
 
A short time later, a Honda CR-V crashed into the truck and became lodged underneath the trailer.
 
Responding emergency crews worked to free the trapped female driver of the Honda and rushed her to the hospital.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
 
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash, which is pending a toxicology report through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
