Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Three Cars on Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto

 
PALO ALTO, CA (February 21, 2024) – A woman was killed in a bicycle accident at Embarcadero Road and Newell Road in Palo Alto on Monday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened around 9:05 p.m. on February 10. According to the Palo Alto Police Department, the woman was riding her bicycle when stopped in the far left lane at the intersection. She was waiting for the green arrow so she could make a left turn.
 
As she waited, a blue 2023 Honda Accord hit her from behind. The impact knocked her into the intersection, where two more eastbound vehicles on Embarcadero Road hit her.
 
The woman died at the scene. She was in her 20s.
 
The driver of the Accord stayed at the scene and spoke with police. The two other drivers did not stop.
 
Police said it was raining lightly at the time of the crash.

There were no signs of drug or alcohol impairment. An investigation is ongoing.
