Woman Hurt, Big Rig Collides With Car on Highway in Santa Cruz

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (June 9, 2022) — A woman was injured after a big rig crashed into a car on Highway 1 near Laguna Road on Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened when a woman in a 2018 Audi tried to make a left turn from the highway.
 
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old Los Banos man in a 2013 Freightliner truck came upon stopped traffic at an unknown speed. The driver subsequently crossed over the double yellow lines to avoid hitting the cars behind the Audi and entered the northbound lane where it crashed into the driver’s side of the Audi.
 
Due to the impact, the Audi crashed into a metal guardrail.
 
As a result of the accident, the woman, a 56-year-old Santa Cruz resident, suffered major injuries. Paramedics airlifted her to an out-of-county trauma center for treatment.
 
At this time, investigators have not confirmed if impairment played a factor in the accident. However, an investigation into the details should clarify more information.
