Hit-and-Run Driver Causes Other Car to Roll Over on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad

 
CARLSBAD, CA (September 27, 2022) – A 23-year-old woman sustained injuries in a hit-and-run rollover crash on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad on Sunday morning, September 25.
 
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. along the northbound freeway, just south of Poinsettia Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles woman was driving her silver Nissan Sentra in the second lane of the freeway when a dark-colored SUV – possibly a Jeep – with a Skull and Crossbones tire cover struck her car. The impact caused the Nissan to overturn onto the right shoulder.
 
After the crash, the driver of the SUV fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Responding paramedics took the woman to Scripps Memorial Hospital with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
