MONTECITO, CA (October 3, 2022)— A woman was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Mountain Drive near Cold Spring Trailhead.
 
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal incident happened just before 5:35 a.m. on Thursday.
 
Upon hearing news of a woman screaming, deputies responded to the 800 block of East Mountain Drive to find a seriously injured woman on the road.
 
Paramedics rushed her to a hospital where, despite life-saving efforts, she died from her wounds. Authorities have withheld her identity due to pending family notification.
 
Investigators determined that a driver might have deliberately struck the woman and left the scene soon after. At this time, the whereabouts and identity of the suspect are unavailable. Although, if anyone has seen this incident or can help authorities, please reach out.
