Pedestrian Ella Mikel Dies in Downtown Fresno Train Accident

 
DOWNTOWN FRESNO, CA (May 3, 2021) – A pedestrian died Wednesday, April 21 after she was struck by a train near Mono Street.
 
62-year-old Ella Mikel was identified as the victim, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. She is described as a homeless person from Fresno.
 
According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. The train conductor reportedly saw Mikel on the train tracks and attempted to alert the pedestrian.
 
The conductor then tried to slow the train down, but the train could not stop in time.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Mikel dead at the scene.
 
As per reports, the train traffic lights and railroad crossing signs were working at the time of the accident. Also, the investigators believe that a second train played a vital role in the fatal incident.
 
The stopped train caused at least two hours of road closures. Fresno police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
