Woman Killed in San Diego 2-Car Accident on 5 Freeway

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 13, 2022) — A woman died in a 2-car crash on the 5 Freeway near Coronado Avenue on Tuesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 11:00 a.m. in San Diego’s Nestor neighborhood. For unknown reasons, a 65-year-old man driving a Ford Ranger northbound on the 5 Freeway veered across all lanes of traffic. Subsequently, the Ford collided with a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 24-year-old Chula Vista woman.

As a result, the Ford overturned and ejected a 63-year-old female passenger from the vehicle.

Soon after, paramedics reached the scene and rushed the seriously injured woman to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Meanwhile, the 65-year-old Ford driver suffered major injuries and the Jetta driver sustained minor wounds.

At this time, officers have not reported why the Ford driver veered across all traffic lanes. However, an ongoing investigation into this 2-car crash should confirm any outstanding details.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
