Woman Killed, Vehicle Crashes Into Pole in Fiery Crash on Molera Road in Monterey County

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (August 7, 2023) — A woman died after her car crashed into a power pole in an accident on Molera Road near Monterey Dunes Way.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle crash happened around 11:00 p.m. Thursday. For an unknown reason, the Salinas woman driving a 2016 blue Hyundai Sonata crashed into a PG&E electric pole. As a result, the vehicle rolled 20 feet from the roadway and burst into flames.

By 11:10 p.m., police officers arrived but the 29-year-old woman was still trapped inside the burning automobile. Her two passengers managed to escape the fire, however.

Not long after, CHP officers pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. Due to the accident, PG&E had to repair the power pole which was sheared in half.

Authorities did not say what led to the crash, but an ongoing investigation should confirm the details.
