Car Crashes into Parked Box Truck in Newport Beach Killing the Driver and Injuring 2 Passengers

 
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (November 25, 2022) – Wan Francisco Fernandez was killed in a rear-end crash in Newport Beach Sunday evening on November 20.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:00 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Coast Highway. According to the Newport Beach Police Department, a Mercedes-Benz occupied by two men and a woman was heading westbound when it crashed into the back of box truck parked along the road.
 
Fernandez, a 29-year-old Whittier resident, was the driver of the Mercedes. He died at the scene.
 
The two passengers in the Mercedes were taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
No one was inside the box truck at the time of the crash.
 
What caused the vehicle to crash, and whether drugs or alcohol were involved was not immediately known. Further investigation is underway.
