Car Drives Off Highway 101 in Gaviota Injuring Two People

 
GAVIOTA, CA (January 1, 2023) – Two people were rescued after driving off Highway 101 in Gaviota early Wednesday morning.
 
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on December 28, near the Gaviota Pass Tunnel. According to reports, a car drove off the highway for unknown reasons.
 
First responders found the car in the creek near the tunnel. Using a rope system, Santa Barbara County firefighters pulled the two occupants to safety. Both patients suffered moderate injuries.
 
Emergency services worked to remove the car from the wooded creek bed and were blocking the road partially on Highway 101.
 
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but authorities said that the roadway was wet. Further investigation is underway.
