Sacramento County Hit-and-Run on 80 Freeway Kills Two Men, Leaves 1 with Serious Injuries

 
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (October 5, 2021) – Two men died in a hit-and-run crash on 80 Freeway in Sacramento County Monday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:05 p.m. on October 4, just west of Madison Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a green GMC pickup truck was traveling westbound when it went off the roadway for unknown reasons. It then collided into a Nissan Sentra and a Ford F-150.
 
Prior to the crash, the Ford and Nissan were disabled on the right shoulder of the freeway. A 26-year-old man and 63-year-old man, both from Sacramento, were standing by the disabled vehicles when the green pickup struck them. The GMC then went back into traffic and hit a Honda Pilot that was also traveling westbound.
 
The driver of the GMC then got out of their vehicle and ran away toward the direction of the nearby Scandia Fun Center, CHP officials said.
 
First responders pronounced the 26-year-old man dead the scene. Ground ambulance took the 63-year-old man to a hospital, where he also died. Both were not yet identified.
 
A passenger inside the GMC sustained serious injuries.
 
Witnesses described the driver of the GMC as a balding male, who was wearing blue jeans, no shirt and had tattoos.
 
Police are still investigating the incident. They asked anyone with information to call them at 916-348-2300.
