Passenger Dies after Car Crashes into Concrete Barrier on 10 Freeway in Indio, Driver Arrested for DUI

 
INDIO, CA (January 3, 2024) – Teresa Herrera was killed in a car accident in Indio early Sunday morning on December 24.
 
The fatal accident happened around 2:05 a.m. on 10 Freeway, just under Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard overcrossing. According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Toyota Camry was traveling westbound along the freeway when it crashed into a concrete barrier.
 
The impact of the crash caused the passenger to be ejected from the car. That passenger died at the scene.
 
The coroner’s office identified Herrera as the fatal victim. She was a 35-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident.
 
The car’s driver, a 27-year-old man from Palm Springs, was taken to a local hospital with complaints of pain. He was then arrested at the hospital for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

It was not unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
