17-Year-Old Dies in Off-Road Crash near Panama Road in Lamont

LAMONT, CA (September 13, 2022) — A teen died in an off-road accident near Panama Road and Mod Way on Saturday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal off-road crash happened around 10:30 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, a 17-year-old boy operating a black 2021 Polaris RZR off-road vehicle westbound within a dirt field struck the edge of a concrete culvert at an unsafe speed.

As a result, the driver and three female passengers — ages 14, 17 and 13 — suffered moderate to major injuries.

Shortly after, paramedics arrived at the scene and brought the patients to Kern Medical-Bakersfield, where the 17-year-old girl died.

At this time, police believe alcohol played a factor in the crash and arrested the 17-year-old male. If anyone has more information on this accident, please call the CHP Bakersfield Area Office at (661) 396-6600.
