Head-On Crash on Highway 99 in Sutter County Kills 18-Year-Old Man

 
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (July 21, 2022) – A teenager died while George Sewell and Edward Garcia suffered serious injuries after a head-on accident on Highway 99 on Tuesday.
 
The accident happened around 7:50 p.m. near Live Oak Boulevard on July 19. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old man from Olivehurst was driving a 2006 Toyota Solara south in the northbound lane of the highway.
 
At the same time, Sewell, a 53-year-old resident of Lynden, Washington, was driving a 2017 U-Haul moving van northbound. He could not stop in time and collided head-on with the wrong-way Toyota.
 
The impact of the crash caused the U-Haul van to roll over on its side.
 
The teen driver of the Toyota died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Sewell and his passenger Garcia, 20, suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported them to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital for treatment.
 
This fatal crash is still under investigation and officers suspected DUI as a factor.
