CONTRA COSTA, CA (August 19, 2022) — Several people were injured in a multi-car accident on the 680 Freeway near Pacheco Boulevard.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash that involved a big rig happened around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon responding, CHP Contra Costa officials reached the scene and found two people with minor injuries.
 
It appears a car rear-ended another vehicle under unclear circumstances, which led the second car to hit a semi-truck. As a result, the big rig jackknifed, blocking all southbound lanes of the freeway, before its fuel tank was punctured.
 
Soon after, Contra Costa County Fire, Contra Costa County Health Hazardous Materials Unit and Cal Trans responded to the scene since diesel fuel spilled onto the road.
