Sergio Mata and Edgar Garcia Die, Flurencio Martinez Detained in Taft DUI Crash

 
TAFT, CA (August 25, 2022) — Sergio Andres Lopez Mata and Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia died in a DUI accident involving a semi-truck on Highway 33 at Wood Street.
 
According to Taft please, the fatal DUI crash happened around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday. For DUI-related causes, 20-year-old Flurencio Estrada Martinez drove a Chevrolet Sonic eastbound on Wood Street into the path of a southbound truck at Highway 33.
 
As a result, both vehicles collided.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded to the scene and found two people dead. The coroner’s office has identified them as 46-year-old Mata from Tijuana, Mexico, and 35-year-old Garcia from Bakersfield.
 
Another passenger survived the crash with unknown injuries.
 
Following an investigation into the accident, authorities arrested 20-year-old Martinez for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges. Authorities have him detained at Kern County Jail, with a bail of $110,000.
