Motorcyclist Dies after Colliding with Pickup Truck in Borrego Springs

 
BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (October 25, 2022) – Ruben Gutierrez died in a motorcycle accident in Borrego Springs on Saturday afternoon, October 22.
 
The accident happened around 3:31 p.m. on Shell Reef Expressway, which is an off-road area. According to reports, Gutierrez was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Shell Reef. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling westbound along the same roadway.
 
The driver of the pickup truck saw Gutierrez heading down the center of the trail. Both of them attempted to avoid each other, but unsuccessful. The motorcycle and the pickup truck collided.
 
Responding paramedics and State Parks officers attempted to save Gutierrez, but he died at the scene.
 
Gutierrez was an 18-year-old Hispanic male from Mexico.
 
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
The California State Parks is handling the investigation.
