Small Plane Crashes near Modesto Airport Killing the Pilot

 
MODESTO, CA (January 22, 2023) – A pilot was killed after a small airplane crashed near the Modesto Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 1:00 p.m. on January 18, in a field east of the airport beside the northbound lanes of Mitchell Road. According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, the plane appeared to have gone down head-on into an area with trees. Multiple parts of the plane had snapped.
 
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, died in the crash. Authorities withheld his identity at this time.
 
Traffic on the Mitchell Road bridge was delayed due to emergency vehicles in the area.
 
An investigation into this crash is underway.
