David Whalen Killed in Scooter Accident on Grand Avenue [Ojai, CA]

Mobility Scooter Dies after Struck by Vehicle in Ojai

 
OJAI, CA (May 5, 2024) – David Whalen was killed in a scooter accident in Ojai Saturday afternoon on April 27.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Grand Avenue near the intersection with Lion Street. According to the Ojai Police Department, Whalen was riding his three-wheeled Rascal scooter near the bicycle lane on westbound Grand Avenue when a vehicle also heading west struck him.
 
Paramedics arrived and took Whalen to the parking lot of Nordhoff Junior High and High School, where a helicopter with the Ventura County Air Unit airlifted him to the trauma center at Ventura County Medical Center.
 
Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, Whalen did not survive and was declared dead. He was a 79-year-old Ojai resident, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
