Carjacking Suspect Causes Three-Vehicle Crash on Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento Killing 2 Women

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 22, 2023) – Two women were killed in a three-vehicle crash on Florin Perkins Road in South Sacramento Thursday morning on January 19.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:15 a.m. just north of Florin Road. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the crash started with a report of an attempted purse snatching. The victim fought the suspect off, preventing a car theft at French Road and Gerber Road.
 
The suspect proceeded to carjack a Toyota RAV 4. He then ran a red light and violently crashed into two other vehicles. Two women inside one of the vehicles, ages 49 and 42, died in the crash.
 
A Las Vegas resident was driving the third involved vehicle. That person was treated at the scene for complaints of pain.
 
The suspect, a 22-year-old Sacramento man, sustained minor injuries and is recovering in a hospital. After his release from the hospital, police will book him into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He faces charges of DUI causing death, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the CHP are investigating the deadly crash.
