Hit-and-Run Crash at Cary Park in Fresno Kills Man and Leaves Woman in Critical Condition

 
FRESNO, CA (May 5, 2024) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash at Cary Park on Santa Ana Avenue in Fresno Friday evening on May 3.
 
Around 8:15 p.m., Fresno police officers attempted to pull over a car near Gettysburg Avenue and First Street for not having their lights on. However, the driver failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued.
 
The suspect continued to flee westbound Santa Ana Avenue. As it approached Cary Park, the car hopped the curb, entered the park and struck two people, a man and a woman, behind the backstop of a baseball field.
 
The car then drove off and later crashed into a pole near Thesta Street and Santa Ana Avenue.
 
After the crash, two people got out of the suspect car and ran away.
 
The man that was struck suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only described him as someone in his 30s.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the woman to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
 
Authorities are still searching for the two suspects. Further investigation is underway.
