Head-On Accident on Highway 99 with Galt Police Car Leaves 1 Dead

 
GALT, CA (August 22, 2021) – One person was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 99 near Galt early Sunday morning.
 
The accident happened around 4:35 a.m. on August 22, just north of Dillard Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling in the southbound lanes when it crashed through a median concrete barrier and crossed over into the northbound lanes. It then collided head-on with a Galt Police Department patrol vehicle with two officers inside.
 
As a result, the driver of the Dodge suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Two passengers in the pickup sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The two Galt police officers in the patrol car suffered major injuries and were taken to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
 
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash. The South Sacramento CHP Area is investigating the accident.
