Two Big Rigs Collide on 15 Freeway in Apple Valley Critically Injuring One Driver

 
APPLE VALLEY, CA (December 15, 2023) – One person was critically injured in a big rig accident on 15 Freeway in Apple Valley Wednesday evening on December 13.
 
The accident happened around 7:03 p.m. just south of Wild Wash Road. According to the CHP, two big rigs collided along the northbound freeway. One big rig was hauling goods on the 18-wheeler tractor truck when it experienced a tire blowout. It became disabled in the slow lane, creating a hazardous situation. A second big rig then crashed into the stalled vehicle.
 
San Bernardino County Fire crews responded and found one of the drivers trapped inside the overturned big rig.
 
After extrication, an air ambulance took that driver to a nearby trauma center with critical head injuries.
 
The driver of the second big rig was unharmed.

Both semis were reported to be loaded with grocery store items. Approximately 50 gallons of diesel and oil mixed spilled across the traffic lanes, then into a storm drain that flowed into the open desert before it was stop.
