Officer Hospitalized by Falling Tree on Highway 17 in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (January 9, 2023) — An officer was injured by a falling tree on Highway 17 near the 280 Freeway Thursday morning.
 
According to reports, California Highway Patrol officers responded around 10:08 a.m. to a scene of a car accident blocking the slow lane. Responding officers were reportedly standing on the right-hand shoulder when the windy and wet weather knocked over a tree. One of the officers, however, failed to get out of the way in time and was hit by the toppling tree.
 
Soon after, paramedics brought the officer to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Reports confirmed that the 60-foot tree was not related to the car crash from the initial incident. Though, if anyone has more information, please contact San Jose police.
