Car Slams Head-On into Oceanside Police Patrol Vehicle on Vista Way Injuring Officer and Driver

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (December 19, 2022) – An Oceanside Police officer and a driver sustained injuries after a head-on accident on Vista Way.
 
The accident happened around 1:35 a.m. on December 13 near South Moreno Street. According to the Oceanside Police Department, the officer was observing traffic while inside a patrol car parked in the center median. A white sedan exited from westbound Highway 78 apparently lost control and slammed into the police vehicle.
 
The officer was able to get out of the patrol car. He helped the sedan’s driver, who was trapped in the wreckage.
 
First responders took the officer to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Paramedics also transported the sedan’s driver to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.
 
Police said the driver was evaluated for a possible DUI. Further investigation is underway.
