Nicole Harris-Byrne Dead after Santa Barbara Pedestrian Accident
SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 16, 2021) — A Temecula pedestrian identified as 23-year-old Nicole Marie Harris-Byrne died in an accident on Sunday, July 11.
The crash occurred at about 12:50 a.m. on Highway 101 between the Garden Street and Bath Street exits.
Reports said that three people in their 20s, all from out of the area, were going to the bars in downtown Santa Barbara. They decided to cross Highway 101 on foot.
California Highway Patrol Officer Shannan Sams said that the pedestrians ran across southbound traffic lanes near Garden Street. He said that it looks like all three climbed over the center divider wall. Then they went across the northbound lanes.
A GMC Yukon in the left-hand lane of the northbound lanes struck Harris, who is one of the pedestrians.
The other two pedestrians did not sustain any injuries and witnessed the crash, according to Santa Barbara fire officials.
They administered CPR, but responders declared Harris dead at the scene.
The driver remained in the area after the incident.
Surviving family have set up a GoFundMe account for upcoming expenses.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nicole Harris-Byrne.
