Motorcycle Rider Hospitalized after Hit-and-Run Accident on Belmont Avenue near Hughes Avenue

 
FRESNO, CA (January 23, 2023) — A motorcyclist suffered injuries after a hit-and-run accident on Belmont Avenue on Saturday, January 21.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:21 p.m. on Belmont Avenue near Hughes Avenue, west of Highway 99.
 
CHP Sgt. Nicholas Norton stated that a black SUV pulled a flatbed trailer westbound on Belmont. At the same time, the motorcyclist traveled eastbound on Belmont toward the SUV. Then for undetermined reasons, the SUV made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle rider.
 
The motorcyclist attempted to prevent the collision. He laid down the bike and crashed with the rear of the trailer. The SUV didn’t stop and fled the scene, Norton said.
 
Paramedics rushed the unresponsive motorcyclist to Community Regional Medical Center.
 
The SUV make or model and the suspect description are not yet available. The driver will face felony hit-and-run, Norton said.
 
Officers continue to look for witnesses and surveillance videos.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
