Riverside Police Sergeant Dies in Off-Duty Motorcycle crash in Nuevo

 
NUEVO, CA (August 4, 2022)Matthew Lewis died in an off-duty motorcycle accident in the Nuevo area east of Perris Monday evening on August 1.
 
The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. near Pico Avenue and Santa Rosa Road. According to the Riverside Police Department, Lewis was riding his motorcycle northbound on Pico Avenue. At the same time, the driver of a red GMC Sierra truck pulling a trailer was traveling southbound.
 
The driver of the truck failed to yield to the motorcycle and turned left onto Santa Rosa Road crossing in front of it. The motorcycle then collided onto the side of the truck.
 
As a result of the crash, Lewis suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. He was 45 years old from Nuevo. He was a 25-year veteran at RPD where he excelled as a Cadet, Police Officer, Detective, and Sergeant working a variety of assignments.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was unharmed.
 
This fatal crash remains under investigation.
