Electric Scooter Rider Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries after Hit by Car on Zion Avenue in Allied Gardens

 
ALLIED GARDENS, CA (May 7, 2023) – A man was seriously injured in a scooter accident at Zion Avenue and Delbarton Street in the Allied Gardens neighborhood early Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 1:10 a.m. on May 1. According to the San Diego Police Department, the 36-year-old man was riding an electric scooter southbound on Delbarton Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the Zion Avenue intersection.
 
At the same time, a 53-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Zion Avenue.
 
Police said the scooter rider then rode in front of the Camry and was hit in the intersection.
 
First responders rushed the scooter rider to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
Alcohol and drugs were not considered as factors in the crash, which is still under investigation. Authorities urged witnesses to contact SDPD’s Traffic Division at 858-495-7800 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
