Fatal Train Accident on Noell Street in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 2, 2021) – A man died in a train accident on Noell Street in the Five Points area Thursday afternoon.
The train accident happened a little after 12:00 p.m. just past the West Washington Street Station near 5 Freeway.
According to the CHP, the Amtrak train was heading north when its engineer spotted the pedestrian walking toward the tracks.
The engineer sounded the emergency horns and applied the emergency brakes. The man apparently ignored the warnings, and the train was unable to stop before striking him.
As a result, the man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office was called in to identify the deceased pedestrian.
Train service on the northbound rails was halted for about 2 and a half hours.
An investigation into this train accident is ongoing.
