61-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Tractor Trailer on Highway 58 in Mojave

 
MOJAVE, CA (January 3, 2024) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 58 in Mojave early Sunday morning on December 24.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:13 a.m. near Tehachapi Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 61-year-old California City man was standing in the roadway of westbound Highway 58 after being involved in an initial crash.
 
At the same time, 23-year-old Sergio Banks-Jacobo of Fresno was driving a combination truck tractor pulling a Hyundai. He saw the pedestrian standing within the roadway and was unable to avoid striking him.
 
The impact caused the victim fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Banks-Jacobo did not sustain any injuries.

At this time, it is known if alcohol or drugs was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
