Man in Wheelchair Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Vermont Avenue in West Athens

 
WEST ATHENS (May 25, 2022) – A man in a wheelchair was killed in a hit-and-run crash at Vermont Avenue and 120th Street, early Tuesday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:00 a.m. on May 24 in a southwestern Los Angeles County community. CHP officers said they received a report about the wheelchair on the sidewalk near the victim.
 
When they arrived, they located the male pedestrian suffering from fatal injuries. They pronounced him dead at the scene. Apparently, the victim was struck by a vehicle that did not stop.
 
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once family members are properly notified.
 
The intersection does have a marked crosswalk, but it is not yet known whether the victim was in the process of crossing the street when he was hit.
 
At this time, the CHP is still investigating the fatality and on the lookout for the hit-and-run suspect.
